【摘要】:TheMillerNumber5isanindexoftherelativeabrasivityofslurries.Itsprimarypurposeistoranktheabrasivityofslurriesintermsofthewearofastandardreferencematerial.TheweardamageonthestandardwearblockisworseastheMillerNumbergetshigher.TheSARNumberisanindexoftherelativeabrasionresponseofmaterialsastestedinanyparticularslurryofinterest.TheSARNumberisageneralizedformoftheMillerNumberapplicabletomaterialsotherthanthereferencematerialusedfortheMillerNumberdetermination.Amajorpurposeistorankconstructionmaterialsforuseinasystemforpumpingandfluidhandlingequipmentforaparticularslurry.ItcanalsobeusedtoranktheabrasivityofvariousslurriesagainstanyselectedconstructionmaterialotherthanthereferencematerialspecifiedforaMillerNumberdetermination.TheslurrydamageonthespecimenofmaterialbeingtestedisworseastheSARNumbergetshigher.ExperiencehasshownthatslurrieswithaMillerNumberoraSARNumberofapproximately50orlowercanbepumpedwithminorabrasivedamagetothesystem.Aboveanumberof50,precautionsmustbeobservedandgreaterdamagefromabrasionistobeexpected.Accordingly,theMillerNumberandtheSARNumberprovideinformationabouttheslurryorthematerialthatmaybeusefulintheselectionofpumpsandotherequipmentandtopredictthelifeexpectancyofliquid-endpartsofthepumpsinvolved.TheSARNumbercanbeusedtodeterminethemostsuitablematerialsforcertainslurrysystems.1.1Thistestmethodcoversasinglelaboratoryprocedurethatcanbeusedtodevelopdatafromwhicheithertherelativeabrasivityofanyslurry(MillerNumber)ortheresponseofdifferentmaterialstotheabrasivityofdifferentslurries(SARNumber),canbedetermined.1.2Thetestdataobtainedbythisprocedureisusedtocalculateeitheranumberrelatedtotherateofmasslossofduplicatestandard-shaped27%chromiumironwearblockswhenrunforaperiodoftimeintheslurryofinterest(MillerNumber),ortocalculateanumberrelatedtotherateofmassloss(convertedtovolumeloss)ofduplicatestandard-shapedwearspecimensofanymaterialofinterestwhenrunforaperiodoftimeinanyslurryofinterest(SARNumber).1.3TherequirementforafinishedflatwearingsurfaceonthetestspecimenforaSARNumbertestmayprecludeapplicationoftheprocedurewherethin(0.051to0.127-mm),hard,wear-resistantcoatingswillnotallowforsurfacefinishing.The6hourstotaldurationoftheSARNumberTestmaynotallowestablishmentofaconsistentrate-of-mass-lossoftheunfinishedsurface.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
