MIL-STD-6040B (NOTICE 1), DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE INTERFACE STANDARD: U.S. MESSAGE TEXT FORMAT (USMTF) DESCRIPTION (U)(26 AUG 2009)., MIL-STD-6040B is UNCLASSIFIED and contains the rules to provide a standardized set of USMTF messages and protocol for DoD use. The messages using XML-MTF schemas are versioned controlled and updated as required and are valid for use inacquisition. As authorized by DISA-GE332 the DoD controlling office for this MIL-STD, the distribution restriction of this military standard remains at DISTRIBUTION STATEMENT "C" (I.E. DISTRIBUTION AUTHORIZED TO U.S. GOVERNMENT AGENCIES AND THEIR CONTRACTORS). All allied releases of this standard continue to requirea foreign disclosure authorization. Scope: The most important aspect of structural unibody repair is the correct application of Gas Metal Arc Welding, or G.M.A.W (formerly called Metallic Inert Gas, M.I.G) welding. It is the intent of the SAE Recommended Practice to inform the body repairman on how to evaluate his welds and check if the welder is properly adjusted. By doing this, he can improve the quality of his structural repairs and develop consistent welds.
